Dear Park Residents Association,

We are writing to express our support for the proposed Cherrywood to Cornelscourt Greenway through Cabinteely Park. While we understand the concerns outlined in your recent email, We believe this project represents a valuable opportunity to create a safer, more sustainable means of transportation and a better quality of life for our community.

Here are a few reasons why we support the Greenway:

1. Sustainable Mobility for All Ages and Abilities
The Greenway promises a safer, car-free route for cyclists, walkers, and families, allowing people of all ages to commute to work or school, exercise, or simply enjoy the park and surrounds without relying on cars. Creating designated paths for these activities also encourages sustainable transport, reducing traffic and emissions in the area.

2. Improved Accessibility and Connectivity
By linking Cherrywood, Cabinteely Park, and Cornelscourt, the Greenway will help connect our community, making it easier to reach schools, shops, and workplaces without driving. This is a valuable investment for the future of our neighborhood and can help reduce overall congestion, benefiting everyone.

3. E-bike and E-scooter Safety Management
The safety concerns raised around e-bikes and e-scooters are valid and should be addressed. However, many successful Greenways in Ireland and across Europe have introduced measures to manage mixed usage. Implementing safe-speed limits, clear signage, separate lanes, and even introducing education campaigns can ensure that all users, including those with e-mobility devices, can safely coexist.

4. Community Benefits of the Park as a Multi-functional Space
As our community grows, we need to consider ways to ensure that Cabinteely Park remains accessible and relevant to all. Rather than detracting from its character, the Greenway can enhance the park’s accessibility, bringing more visitors and support to local amenities such as the playground, gardens, and coffee shop.

5. Promoting Safe, Well-Managed Use of the Park
Concerns about late-night access and potential anti-social behavior are important. We believe these issues can be managed through targeted interventions such as maintaining closing times and enhancing security where needed, as has been successful in other public parks with Greenway infrastructure.

We hope our Councillors recognize that with thoughtful planning and design, this Greenway can be an asset that enhances the quality of life in our area. We encourage the Association to engage openly with the council on potential solutions to address residents’ concerns, as we believe this Greenway can be developed in a way that benefits all.

Thank you for considering these points.

Warm regards,
